Multifamily EV Charging Installation

Make apartments and condos green with EV charging!

With more electric vehicles on the road than ever, BC residents are looking for convenient charging options. Savvy building managers are now looking to go green too, and with new rebates available, there’s never been a better time to add multifamily EV chargers to your apartment or condo building!

Multifamily EV Chargers Just Make Sense

Electric vehicles are growing more popular each year, especially among the environmentally conscious residents of Vancouver and the rest of BC. Even with the growing popularity of these vehicles, however, it can still be inconvenient to charge using public EV charging stations. Installing multifamily EV chargers is a smart investment for building owners and property managers of multifamily residential buildings, such as apartments and condos. When you add EV chargers to your building, you can enjoy many great benefits, including:

Rebates for Multifamily EV Chargers

The CleanBC Go Electric Program from BC Hydro aims to encourage EV adoption through rebates for multifamily EV chargers. On a rolling basis, Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program also frequently provides funding for multifamily EV chargers.

Currently, BC Hydro is providing up to $137,000 in rebates to support multifamily EV charging.

BC Hydro EV Ready Rebates

BC Hydro has fully re-opened the EV Ready rebate program, securing additional funding for 2023 and 2024. The EV Ready program provides funding for the electrical infrastructure that many multifamily residential complexes need in order to support EV charging setups.

Multifamily strata can receive up to $3,000 to support the creation of an EV Ready plan, and up to $120,000 for necessary infrastructure upgrades outlined in the EV Ready plan.

BC Hydro EV Charger Rebates

The BC Hydro rebate program also includes rebates for the purchase and installation of eligible EV chargers for multifamily residential buildings. This includes funding for up to 50% of the cost to purchase and install EV chargers, to a maximum of $2,000 per charger and $14,000 per project/building. These rebates are available both as part of the EV Ready program and as standalone charging rebates.

Flexible Charging Options to Suit Your Building, Residents, & Budgetary Needs

As electric vehicles have grown more popular, EV charging technology has improved by leaps and bounds. One of the best improvements in this regard has been to the variety of EV chargers available, with more ways to charge now than ever before. This means property managers have more flexibility in terms of how they upgrade their property with multifamily EV chargers.

Install in Any Location

Rather than having restrictive installation requirements, today’s EV chargers can be installed in just about any location. Whether your building has covered parking (such as carports or garages) or an open parking lot, there are EV charging options to suit either configuration.

Multiple Charging Option

EV chargers come in a variety of types, with Level 1 and Level 2 chargers being the most common. Depending on the needs of your residents, either type of charger could serve your residents well. You even have the option of installing Level 2 chargers yourself or creating Level 2-ready areas where residents can have their own Level 2 chargers installed.

Many Options to Future-Proof

Not sure how many residents will use EV chargers? No problem! The EV charging experts at TCA can help you map out an EV charging plan that provides for current needs while allowing for easy expansion down the line.
