Team Outing: Grouse Mountain

The TCA Team Took an Adventurous Trip to Grouse Mountain!

At TCA Electric, we’re constantly striving to be the best electricians in Vancouver. All that striving starts with hard work and dedication from our team—but of course, hardworking team members also need some time and space to loosen up, have fun, and build camaraderie to be even more effective.

The TCA Team recently went on an excursion to Grouse Mountain, a prime hiking and outdoor spot just outside of downtown Vancouver. We spent the full day there participating in fun activities, watching live shows, and just generally unwinding as a team. This was a great opportunity for us all to get out and have fun, and we wanted to share our outing with our readers.

What Is Grouse Mountain?

Longtime Vancouver residents will undoubtedly know all about Grouse Mountain already. It’s a beautiful nature and hiking area just outside of downtown—in fact, usually you can get some spectacular views of downtown Vancouver, though it was unfortunately cloudy on the day we went.

Attractions include nature and wildlife viewings featuring grizzly bears and more; adventurous activities like ziplining, paragliding, and aerial ropes courses; and plenty of hiking and fresh air.

Planning Our Outing

For TCA President Sean Tobin, Grouse Mountain seemed like the perfect place to spend a full day just having fun as a team. “The main goal was to reward my team with a full day outing on a workday to show my appreciation for their continued dedication and hard work,” said Tobin.

With plenty of options available, there was something for every member of our team, with activities matching everyone’s comfort level and tolerance for heights and more.

A Day of Outdoor Fun

The day was completely packed from start to finish. After meeting up at the base of the mountain, we headed up for ziplining and the ropes courses. Following that, we broke for lunch, then headed over to the world-famous Lumberjack Show, which was definitely a highlight of the day. We got plenty of wildlife viewings in, with the Birds in Motion show followed by some time spent watching grizzly bears Coola and Grinder splash around in their pool. Finally, we enjoyed a patio dinner to close out the day.

Making the Most of a Cloudy Day

Even though the weather was cloudy, our team had a lot of fun from start to finish. “Unfortunately the day was cloudy so there wasn’t much of a view of Vancouver,” said Tobin. “But now some of us can say we ziplined through a cloud. On a couple of the ziplines you could not see the other end, and you’d watch the ones before you go and they just disappeared into the cloud.”

The shows, activities, and meals were all a big hit with the team. Different team members were able to spend more time together, chat outside of work, and overall build stronger personal relationships with each other.

As Sean Tobin put it, “I think it definitely helped us to loosen up, have some friendly banter and realize that outside of work we’re all human and like to have a fun time. Sometimes this gets lost in the day-to-day workload when you have project managers and field crew or even journeypersons and apprentices. On the mountain there was no hierarchy; we were all equals. It helped strengthen the relationships that were already built.”

Here’s to the Next Outing!

Overall, Grouse Mountain was a big success for our team. Everyone was very thankful and full of smiles throughout the day, and some team members who’d lived a long time in Vancouver were able to visit Grouse Mountain for the first time ever.

For Sean Tobin, it was a pleasure to see the team out and about and having a blast. “I always knew we had a great team, but this was a huge bonus.”

And of course, he’s already looking forward to planning the next outing for the TCA Team. “For small events I’m thinking of pitch and putt; however, for something larger perhaps a chartered fishing trip or dinner cruise.” We’ll have to see what’s in store!

If you’re looking for an ideal outing for your company or for family and friends, we couldn’t recommend Grouse Mountain enough. For those in Vancouver, it’s right on your doorstep, and there’s something to enjoy for everyone. To see more of the TCA Electric team, be sure to follow our blog for more updates!
